Our story

A living archive of food history

Some recipes disappear when the people who remember them are gone. A grandmother who measured flour with a chipped teacup. A father who never quite wrote anything down. A neighbour whose bread you can still taste, if you close your eyes.

Handed Down Recipes was started to keep those recipes and, just as importantly, the people and the moments woven into them. This is not a modern recipe blog. It is closer to a family cookbook, or an old wooden box passed from hand to hand.

Every entry in the archive belongs to someone. A country, a region, a generation. A Sunday, a wedding, a first frost, a long winter. We publish carefully, slowly, and with great respect for the person who kept the recipe alive long enough to send it to us.

If a recipe lives in your kitchen — perhaps one nobody else in the world will remember if you don't write it down — we would be honored to keep a copy in the archive.

Every recipe has a story.
